Important Web Design Principles

<

It is hard to believe that websites continue to appear on the internet at such a breakneck pace, but they do. As information delivery continues to turn to the web, websites of all kinds are springing up. In order to make your site stand out from the crowd, there are some important things you should pay attention to.

Websites are published online to be seen. The more people that land on a particular website, the more possibilities open up for that site. That is why it is very important to figure out the target audience of the site. After it has been determined whom you are trying to reach, decide what kind of information they will be seeking. Decide if the site will have a retail aspect to it as well as information. Just like authors of books and articles, a target audience needs to be determined, not only to make the website appealing but to focus the content to be found on it. Poor marketing will relegate a website to the trash heap.

Another important thing to pay attention to is the compatibility of the site on various browsers. If you are looking to attract a rather large number of web users, you will be more restricted on the coding you use. Sites that are available to the most surfers will be restricted to XHTML 1.0 Strict and prior versions. There will also be limited CSS usage and resolution will be limited because Internet Explorer is not approved for anything more advanced. Those using other browsers often do not face these restrictions. Be sure to test the page on all of the platforms if you wish to fully analyze the site’s compatibility.

Though a website should be attractive and interesting to look at, it needs to be easy to read as well. That is where the aforementioned target audience comes in. The content on the site should be appropriate to the age and experience level of the intended readers. You would be better off to optimize the site as well. Search engine optimization places a website higher up on the results listings of search engines. Also make the site easy to navigate. Frustrating a surfer with labyrinthine links will only chase them away.

It may seem that the most important aspects of web design are coding and other complex pieces of the website puzzle. That is not necessarily the case because the readers of the site are likely completely unconcerned with such things. Remember who will be reading the site and why, and your design will be ahead of the competition.
